Assessments of the collection of mortal remains and of capacity

Assessments of the collection of mortal remains

Once 20 years have passed from the moment a body is laid to rest in a burial niche fund inside a cemetery facility, an assessment of the condition of the casket can be carried out, under medical control, and, should it be found that the mortal remains are mineralised, meaning that nothing is left but bone, they may be collected in a bone case and entombed in the same cemetery facility or in another one.

If, on the other hand, it is found that the body is still not decomposed at the time of the assessment, then those entitled to do so may initiate the procedure for lining the coffin anew and then entombing it in the same cemetery facility or in another one, or cremation may be requested.

Assessments of capacity

Under a specific authorisation from the Ministry of Health, assessments may be carried out on burials at the Verano Cemetery, so as to permit, assuming there is sufficient space, and assuming that certain conditions are met with respect to the features of the cemetery facility and the coffin, the use of a number of burial sites greater than the number called for under the rules of concession.
